Tare privacy policy
Last updated 2026-11-02
Tare sends the reviews it reads, and nothing about your store account.
In short
Kept: Jev's answers for 3 days, under a one-way hash. No review text.
What Tare does
Tare is a Chrome extension. It reads the reviews of a product and tells you what the useful ones say about it. It works only on amazon.com and amazon.in product pages, review pages and search results, and on walmart.com product pages.
What Tare reads on your device
- The product's title and bullet points, and the reviews shown on the page.
- On Walmart, only the reviews already in the product page. Tare fetches nothing more from Walmart.
- On Amazon, more of the product's reviews, from Amazon's review pages and, on search results, from each product's page. Your browser fetches these the same way it would if you clicked through them, while you are signed in to Amazon. Tare never signs in for you, and no Tare server ever visits Amazon. Amazon's terms limit automated access, so Amazon may slow these pages or ask you to check you're a person. Tare stops when that happens, and reads at most 300 Amazon pages a day.
What leaves your device
The first time you use Tare, it asks before it sends anything. After you agree, for each review Tare's server receives:
- the review's title, text, star rating, date, badges (for example "Verified Purchase" or "Vine"), the version the reviewer bought (for example a size) and the country shown on the review;
- the product's title and bullet points;
Tare does not send the store's ID for the product (on Amazon, the ASIN), the store's ID for the review or the reviewer's name.
To group complaints into named problems, Tare also sends the sentences from reviews that describe a problem.
If you ask a question in Tare ("Does it crack?"), the server also receives your question.
Tare's server passes the review, the product details and any question to TypeSafe's Jev service, which judges what the review is about. Jev picks from fixed answers. It does not write anything.
Every request also carries a random install ID. Tare makes this ID the first time it runs. It is not tied to you, your store account or your device. It is used only to limit how many checks one install can make in a day.
Like any website, Tare's server sees the IP address each request comes from. It is used only to limit how many checks one network can make in a day, and is not stored.
What Tare keeps
- Jev's answers, for 3 days. Each is stored under a one-way hash of what was asked, so the same review is not judged twice. The review text is not stored.
- A count of checks per install ID per day, for 2 days. This is how the daily limit works.
- A count of checks per network per day, for 2 days. It is stored under a keyed one-way hash of the IP address that changes every day, so it cannot be turned back into the address or linked across days.
- On your device: the install ID, your answer to the first-run question, your choices in the card (the tab you last used and the unverified-reviews switch), and the results of search-page checks, which Tare keeps for 30 days so a result you already checked shows at once. You can clear them by removing the extension.
What Tare never collects
Through the extension, Tare never collects your name, email address, store account, order history, payment details, or browsing history. Tare has no accounts, no analytics and no ads, and does not sell or share data for advertising. Tare has no affiliate links.
Limited Use
Tare's use of information received from store pages follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Tare uses it only to show you what the reviews say. It does not sell it, use it for ads, or use it to judge creditworthiness.
If you write to Tare
The contact form sends your email address, your name if you give one, the topic and your message. They go by email through Resend to tare@kagaz.page, a Google Workspace mailbox. Tare's server keeps none of them. It counts messages per network per day, under the same daily keyed hash as above, so the form cannot be used to flood the mailbox.
Your email address is used only to reply to you. Ask at tare@kagaz.page and your messages are deleted.
Who handles the data
- TypeSafe (Jev) judges the reviews. It processes prompts in the United States and lists the other companies it uses at trust.typesafe.ai/subprocessors. Its privacy policy says it does not train its models on what customers send, and that it keeps data as long as reasonably necessary: typesafe.ai/legal/privacy-policy
- Vercel runs Tare's server. Like any web host, it sees the IP address of each request. Its runtime logs are kept for 1 hour: vercel.com/legal/privacy-notice
- Resend sends the contact form's messages. It keeps sent emails as its privacy policy describes: resend.com/legal/privacy-policy
- Google Workspace holds the tare@kagaz.page mailbox: cloud.google.com/terms/cloud-privacy-notice
- Upstash stores Jev's answers and the daily counts, in the United States (US East): upstash.com/trust/privacy.pdf
If you shop on amazon.in, the review text Tare sends is processed in the United States, by the companies above.
